SerucellBio Inc. — R&D and IP Entity Behind KFS®
The science entity. Not the brand.
SerucellBio Inc. is the R&D and intellectual property organization responsible for the KFS® manufacturing process, the Intelligent Skin Signaling Standard, and the platform science framework at intelligentcellsignaling.com. We do not sell products. We protect and advance the science.
01 — The Entity
What SerucellBio is. What it is not.
SerucellBio Inc. is the scientific and intellectual property foundation of the KFS® technology ecosystem. Its mandate is the integrity of the science — not its commercialization.
Serucell Skincare Inc. is a separate company that holds the commercial license for KFS® and is responsible for all sales, marketing, and distribution — both direct-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B). The two-entity structure is intentional: scientific integrity and commercial incentive must remain separate.
SerucellBio does not respond to product inquiries. It does not sell ingredients, formulations, or licenses directly. Those functions live at serucell.com.
- IS — The R&D organization: Develops, protects, and validates the science. Commissions independent clinical studies. Conducts proteomic characterization. Holds the patents.
- IS NOT — A product company: Does not sell products, engage in marketing, or handle commercial distribution. Serucell Skincare Inc. handles all B2C and B2B sales, marketing, and distribution.
- IS — The standard administrator: Administers the ISS™ Standard and the platform science framework. Defines qualification criteria. Holds the scientific definitions.
- IS NOT — A marketing entity: Makes no consumer-facing claims. Does not create advertising. Does not position products. Scientific communication only.
02 — IP & Frameworks
Five patents. Two frameworks. One manufacturing process.
The KFS® stress-induction co-culture process is protected by five granted U.S. patents held by SerucellBio Inc. (9,907,745 / 9,974,813 / 10,253,334 / 10,533,191 / 11,299,756), with priority to January 2014 and estimated expiration 2035. The patents distinguish the process over prior art — including SkinMedica’s 1999 conditioned-media work — through two method limitations: competitive over-seeding of a dominant second culture onto a sub-confluent monolayer, and growth-factor-withdrawal stress conditioning.
No other entity holds rights to this process. The patents are verifiable via the USPTO public database. Patent information is available upon request from qualified parties. Contact science@serucell.bio.
Framework 01 — Intelligent Skin Signaling™ (ISS™) Standard. A four-criterion qualification framework for conditioned-media cosmetic ingredients: multi-cell co-culture origin, stress-induced secretion protocol, INCI registration, and independent clinical characterization. All four must be demonstrated and documented. → intelligentskinsignaling.com
Framework 02 — Platform Science. Organ-agnostic platform science describing intercellular signaling in tissue homeostasis, cellular senescence, and secretome-mediated biology across tissue systems. The foundational framework from which the ISS™ Standard is derived. Not specific to skin. → intelligentcellsignaling.com
KFS® — Human Keratinocyte Fibroblast Saline Conditioned Media. INCI-registered cosmetic ingredient produced by SerucellBio Inc. through the patented stress-induction co-culture process. [HOLD — protein count pending Walter verification: 962 vs 969, must match all four sites] characterized secretome with 385 emergent proteins exclusive to co-culture interaction. Initial characterization by mass spectrometry proteomics; independent replication in planning. Validated in a 12-week controlled clinical study by Zoe Diana Draelos, M.D. (DCS-24-19): 43% improvement in overall skin appearance, investigator-assessed, p<0.001, zero adverse events.
03 — Science Platforms
SerucellBio administers two public-facing science platforms. Both are educational resources, not commercial sites. Both are indexed and open to the public.
- ICS — Organ-Agnostic Platform Science (intelligentcellsignaling.com): The foundational science of intercellular communication, secretome biology, and cellular senescence across tissue systems. Not specific to skin. The upstream framework.
- ISS — Skin Application Layer (intelligentskinsignaling.com): The skin-specific application of the platform science. Epidermal-dermal communication, cellular senescence, secretome science, and the Signal-First paradigm. The ISS™ Standard is administered here.
04 — Research Programs
Four programs. One platform. Staged by evidence.
SerucellBio advances research programs across skin, wound, and fibrotic indications. Each program is described at its current stage of evidence.
Program 01 — KFS® Secretome Platform · Stage: Commercial. Photoaged skin / dermal-epidermal communication. KFS® is commercially deployed through Serucell Skincare Inc. under an exclusive license, validated in a 12-week controlled cosmetic efficacy study by Zoe Diana Draelos, M.D. (DCS-24-19). 43% investigator-assessed improvement in overall skin appearance at 12 weeks (p<0.001); 90% improvement in tactile and visual smoothness (p<0.001); 17% improvement in elasticity at 6 weeks (p<0.001); zero adverse events. [HOLD — iHisto DS2 histomorphometry bullet omitted until anomaly resolved]
Program 02 — Recovery / Radiation Dermatitis · Stage: Clinical Data Available — Manuscript in Preparation. Acute radiation dermatitis (oncology supportive care). 0% Grade 3 radiation dermatitis incidence in the KFS® cohort vs. 30% in standard-of-care. Manuscript in preparation for Supportive Care in Cancer. Data available to qualified parties under NDA. Investigational application; not commercially available as a drug product.
Program 03 — TriFusion Lead A / Pulmonary Fibrosis · Stage: Preclinical — Non-GLP. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. A 710-amino-acid recombinant protein candidate combining functional domains of SPARC, IGFBP7, and TIMP1. Preclinical evaluation at Aragen Biosciences (non-GLP bleomycin mouse model): Compound 2 Ashcroft fibrosis score lower than Pirfenidone comparator (p=0.053, n=5). Hypothesis-generating; requires GLP-scale replication. Differentiator is the combination sequence and indication specificity (patent pending).
Program 04 — Platform Development / Organ-Agnostic Secretome Translation · Stage: Platform Development — CMO Engagement Active. Multi-tissue (not yet in formal study). SerucellBio is in active engagement with a contract biologics manufacturing organization under a confidential disclosure agreement. [CMO unnamed until CDA permits.] The platform has not yet completed a full characterization-to-manufacturing cycle beyond KFS®; this is the current primary development milestone.
Data packages for qualified researchers, strategic partners, and institutional investors are available under NDA. Contact science@serucell.bio.
05 — Leadership
Dr. Walter D. Neto, M.D. — Founder & Chief Scientist — Board-Certified Wound Specialist (CWSP). Developer of the stress-induction co-culture manufacturing process behind KFS®. His contribution is not the discovery of keratinocyte-fibroblast communication — established in the literature — but the manufacturing process that captures it at consistent quality and biological character, protected by five granted U.S. patents.
Dr. Brett Jarrell, M.D. FACEP — Founder — Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Integrity. Practices Emergency Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky. Ensures KFS® production, sourcing, and claim-making meet the standard required for the science to be trusted at scale. Marshall University SOM; Residency WVU; Board Certified ABEM.
06 — Scientific Inquiries
For researchers, press, and collaborators.
SerucellBio accepts correspondence from independent researchers, science journalists, regulatory professionals, and parties seeking to understand the IP basis of the KFS® technology platform. We do not respond to product or licensing inquiries — those are handled by Serucell Skincare Inc.
